The Details on the Winchester Home

The Project

This 1900 Chicago Foursquare is tucked onto a charming Chicago boulevard, the kind of place where you plant roots and stay forever. Inside, the home made its intentions clear from the start; original wood window casings that have never once seen a coat of paint (a genuine rarity in Chicago), a wooden staircase that demanded to be celebrated, a stunning stained glass window, original tile in the entryway, and a warmth that hits you the second you walk through the door. The project is an ongoing collaboration unfolding in phases, with years of design work still ahead. What you'll find here is Phases I and II, a strong foundation for a home that is only getting better.

The Inspo

Two things led this design in equal measure: the architecture and the family who lives in it. The Craftsman bones set the tone; warm, grounded, and full of original detail worth celebrating. The stained glass window became an immediate focal point, and all of that gorgeous wood called for a palette of cool tones, deep moodier hues, and bold pops of color to keep everything balanced and dynamic. Wallpaper, paint, vintage lighting, custom built-ins, and furniture with serious personality became the tools for weaving their bold, playful spirit into every room. A whimsical powder room that never fails to delight. A moody music room with mural wallpaper and a hidden door. Playful and sophisticated, in exactly the right measure.

The Client

These clients are the dream. They bought this house knowing I would design it, and from day one, the relationship has been equal parts trust and collaboration. They came with bold instincts, a genuine appreciation for the home's original character, and zero interest in playing it safe. They are busy professionals raising a young family; avid art collectors with a great sense of style and a sharp sense of who they are. This is a family that fills a home with life, laughter, and great art, and this house was ready for exactly that. A home bold enough to excite, warm enough to exhale in, and one that never takes itself too seriously. We are a few phases in, and this house just keeps getting better.
